mixed tapes.

Okay so whilst looking up Maximilian Hecker as suggested by the lovely Lubna over at organised chaos, I stumbled across this…

The Mercedes Benz mixed tape music magazine.

For those of you who have never enjoyed the pure bliss that is a mixed tape, these songs compiled by Mercedes Benz (yes, of the German luxury automobile brand) offers a selection of delicious tunes as well as a wonderful variety of musical talent that will surely deliver.

The mixed tapes come in the form of a collection of mp3 downloads, with a new volume containing 10 tracks released every 8 weeks. They can be downloaded as a convenient zip file and requires no sort of registration whatsoever so the music is absolutely free for the taking.

Meanwhile, mercedes-benz.tv’s accompanying online video magazine that began in February 2008 is a visual and audio feast, presenting highlights every month on a new aspect of music such as trends, styles or epochs. There have been 3 shows produced to date, each featuring modern folk, soul and modern vintage, respectively, with each being as informative as it is entertaining.

If you’d like to download the earlier volumes of the mixed tapes (volumes 1-19) they can be found here. The current volume 20 is available on the Mercedes Benz mixed tape website.

Anyways, Maximilian Hecker’s Full of Voices can be found as the first track on volume 6. I have his Polyester playing on repeat right now. It’s resonating in my head, penetrating. This is really good stuff.
