this distance
is making me cold.
Hometown glory, by Adele. Let the music play:
The heart yearns for that place. Where loved ones are close and familiar things are near.
Took a solitary stroll around the Kremlin last wednesday. Went there by a different metro route than the usual, left my feet to trail wherever they wanted to carry me.
There is a soulful peace, a calm serenity that the city holds. Amidst the hustle and bustle of grey, among the crowd, between the never ending stream of cars…
It fills you up. the many lives that are weaved and intertwined here. All the emotions. Tears shed, dreams built or shattered, deaths mourned, marriages celebrated, these different types of people from different backgrounds meeting for lunch and sealing business deals. Children playing around so full of hope. So oblivious to the world around them.
I stood there, in the middle. Half of me felt so connected, yet another half was desperately aching for home.
Even if home is a land where uncertainty prevails, because at least there there is the promise of change.
And if only just to belong to something.
Then the words from this song paint the picture so well.
I’ve been walking in the same way as I did
Missing out the cracks in the pavement
And tutting my heel and strutting my feet
“Is there anything I can do for you dear? Is there anyone I can call?”
“No and thank you, please Madam. I ain’t lost, just wandering”Round my hometown
Memories are fresh
Round my hometown
Ooh the people I’ve metAre the wonders of my world
I like it in the city when the air is so thick and opaque
I love to see everybody in short skirts, shorts and shades
I like it in the city when two worlds collide
You get the people and the government
Everybody taking different sidesShows that we ain’t gonna stand shit
Shows that we are unitedShows that we ain’t gonna take it
Shows that we ain’t gonna stand shit
Shows that we are united.Round my hometown
Memories are fresh
Round my hometown
Ooh the people I’ve metAre the wonders of my world.
I miss home.
